Obskuur Ghent Film Festival has taken a significant step towards environmental responsibility by partnering with Treeplan.org to plant 300 trees. This initiative is part of the organization's commitment to sustainability and a greener future.

Rebuilding Forests, One Tree at a Time
Forests are essential to life on Earth. Trees capture carbon dioxide, produce oxygen, and provide shelter for countless species. Depending on the size and type, a single mature tree can generate enough oxygen for up to 18 people. Unfortunately, deforestation continues at an alarming rate, with humanity destroying 18 million acres of forest annually.
To counteract this loss, Obskuur Ghent Film Festival has chosen to take action. By planting 300 trees through Treeplan.org, they are contributing to reforestation efforts that help restore ecosystems, combat climate change, and promote biodiversity.
About Obskuur Ghent Film Festival
The Obskuur Ghent Film Festival is often referred to as Europe's most obscure film festival. An island oasis for art amidst a sea of commercialism. Sure, it's modest in form, as we mainly focus on screening films and less on the glitter and glamour. The festival focuses on contemporary cinema and video art and places its films where they belong – within the vibrant context of other art forms. The arena that will serve as the backdrop for the Obskuur Ghent Film Festival is the Velvet Room, a two story eclectic art space showcasing contemporary artworks by artists like Nobuyoshi Araki, Larry Clark, Ed Templeton, Per Kirkeby, Curtiz, Shepard 'Obey' Fairey and Ravi Zupa. The screenings in the small and cozy movie theatre creates great exposure for the movies and their makers while introducing the audience to some gems they might have missed.
