COURTOWN WATERSHED RESTORATION

Working with local farmers, fisheries and their local council, Seal Rescue Ireland's Habitat Restoration Project aims to plant 25,000 native trees throughout the Courtown Harbour catchment. There are 5 main goals for this riparian planting project: 1) Prevent cattle, eroded sediment, fertilisers, pesticides, plastic and other toxic pollutants entering our waterways allowing submerged aquatic and marine ecosystems to regenerate. 2) Create thick wildlife corridors surrounding rivers to restore habitat for terrestrial wildlife and promote regeneration and conservation of biodiversity. 3) Carbon sequestration to mitigate carbon emissions as Ireland moves towards sustainable infrastructure and transport.
